The idea of drug testing food stamp recipients or welfare recipients is so abhorrent to me, so REPULSIVE, that Ive pretty much cut off communications with people who boast about standing for this. To punish the poor for being poor runs counter to anything Ive ever learned in any tradition Ive ever taken seriously. And what really flips my lid is that some of the people who say they support this because they are teaching responsibility (as if they had the authority to teach anybody ANYTHING) ... these same people seem to have forgotten long-ago times when they themselves were dirt poor and scrambling, and would have worked themselves into an early grave if some outside factor had not entered in. This point of view is many things, but it sure isnt Christian And it isnt Islamic either. And I doubt very much that its Judaic. Three Abrahamic strikes and youre out. Now that I think about it, it might be more Hindu. Theres that idea of not messing with someones reincarnational karma, so you dont interfere. Yeah, its more a Hindu idea. Yep.
