The ideology, policies and practices of Hamas are certainly odious. Some of the things theyre doing in Gaza are totally obscene. However, in suggesting Hamas puts Palestinians at risk, the IDF is attempting to absolve itself of all responsibilities and obligations under international law. Lets be clear - in Gaza there are only civilian areas. The using of residential buildings as storage for ammunition is reprehensible, but the IDF needs credible intelligence in order to strike, and can only do so once it can verify there are no civilians in the target area. If there are civilians in the strike area, regardless of how they happen to be there, and the IDF launches a military attack then its a breach of international law and a war crime.
