The ills within health system During the colonial era, Nigeria - TopicsExpress

The ills within health system During the colonial era, Nigeria had a deficiency of health practitioners and as a temporary stop gap measure, established some auxiliary groups pending the establishment and development in academia and requisite groups. This saw the establishment of Schools of Nursing who were taught hands-on skills to cater for an immediate need, they were ranked just a little higher than secondary school certificate holders. General Yakubu Gowon whose girl friend and later wife was one of them, unilaterally elevated these groups to a grade level equivalent to a degree. this anomaly has stood til today. it is insulting to the intellect and knowledge to equate these people who have university certificate in the class of BSc in Nursing to be equated and put below a paper qualification that is below NCE. Where then is the justification for academic excellence? When would this nonsense stop?
