The implementation of a disastrous neoliberal policy from the government under the troikas commands led to a resentful situation where Municipalities collapse, the staff disappears and citizens suffer!!! There are serious implications on the level and the quality of services provided by local authorities, as well as painful consequences for the citizens, who are asked to bear extra financial burdens at a time when poverty and unemployment hit historic high. In the middle of the crisis, the Local Government has been attributed more and more responsibilities, but not the necessary relevant funds. Staff shortages are tragic due to the full suspension of recruitment in Local Authorities of first degree by 2016 and growing retirements in view of the forthcoming painful changes in the social insurance and labour frameworks. Following my invitation, a group consisted of 14 representatives of the PanHellenic Federation of Workers Associations of the Local Government in Greece (POE - OTA), will visit the European Parliament during the next plenary session 24-27 of November in Strasbourg, in order to exchange views and make you awake on these issues. To this end, I would appreciate your participation, in order to exchange views with our visitors, on Wednesday the 26th of November in room LOW R-1.1, between 12.00-13.00 and to the Press Conference entitled Citizens and local administration: targeted victims of the crisis spiral, the same day at 15.00 in room LOW N-1/201.
