The incidence of liver diseases in the northeast is thrice that of the national average, said Naimish Mehta, a senior liver transplant surgeon at New Delhis Sir Ganga Ram Hospital. He said the northeast requires around 300 liver transplants, a hugely expensive procedure, every year. While the country falls under an intermediate Hepatitis B prevalence zone, the northeast is surrounded by a high-risk zone. :( :( :(
