The internationally renowned painted glass artist Cappy Thompson will be teaching a workshop at the National Sculpture Factory in Cork. She will also be one of the speakers at the GSoI Orientate Symposium, November 2nd. Were very excited to have her visit - heres is a brief bio synopsis of her extensive artistic career: Described as “the major practitioner of the art of transparent enameling in the American Studio glass movement,” Cappy Thompson of Seattle, Washington, has been painting on glass since 1976. Starting her career as a stained glass painter, Cappy became known in the glass-art world for her reverse-painted vessels, which have been shown and collected internationally. Her recent work includes large-scale public art commissions at Sea-Tac Airport and the Museum of Glass, among others. An artist who communicates a whole-hearted enthusiasm for glass art, Cappy is an experienced workshop teacher at Pilchuck Glass School and other glass programs internationally. She has received, among other awards, a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship and a Washington State Artist Trust Fellowship. She is a former member of the Glass Art Society board of directors and currently serves on Pilchuck Glass School’s Artistic Program Advisory Committee.
