The judges and gardai in this country reinforce that violence against women isnt that big of a deal every time they let a violent offender off on a suspended sentence, or no real sentence at all, or are even not charged with a crime at all. Men who have beaten their intimate partners, men who have raped teenagers in the street, men who pick women at random to assault -- they are on our trains and buses, in our work places and in our communities. They should not be free, but they are. And heres the natural consequence of that attitude.
