Businesses such as Bryn Elltyd are already leading the way.” The original house dates from 1883 but has been extended and modified to incorporate renewable technologies and environmental features. John and Ceilia have paid particular attention to insulating the building to minimise heat-loss as well as capturing the heat coming into the house from the two conservatories. A state of the art wood pellet gasification boiler, solar thermal panels and a log-burners ensure, locally sourced carbon neutral heating Two electric car-charging points mounted on etched slate plinths. They offer free charging to all users at present. Even the electric for them is made on site or from 100% uk renewable sources. There’s a bike store which has been made of part recycled materials which also offers a workbench for bike maintenance. Bryn Elltyd also has two mountain bikes for hire. Importantly, all the trades and products used at Bryn Elltyd are sourced as locally as possible, with an emphasis on using locally important materials such as slate. Produce for the kitchen is purchased locally, and some, such as duck eggs, fruit and vegetables comes from the Bryn Elltyd Garden.
