The key to the Christian life Mark 8:34-35 “And when he - TopicsExpress

The key to the Christian life Mark 8:34-35 “And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. 35 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospels, the same shall save it.” Here is what I call the key to the Christian life. It is also the key to allegiance to Jesus Christ. He makes the proclamation, “Whosoever will come after me” and follows up with the resolution, “let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.” First to deny yourself means to turn from your will to do the will of God; to direct your life to God’s principles and statutes rather than your own. You cannot make Jesus Lord and Master and serve yourself; you must serve Him. Seeing how the Christian life is very much different than the carnal life, you must deny one to live the other. Secondly, one must take up his cross and follow Jesus. This means that you must become submissive to the authority of Jesus Christ. Just as Jesus submitted to the will of God we need to do the same. When your will contradicts the will of God; do His will. Thirdly, one must follow. Words without actions are vain words; they mean nothing. Many people say they believe in word only. They Bible says, “But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.” If you say you believe and do not go to church, tithe, read your Bible, pray, etc. your “faith” is not faith at all. Give yourself to Jesus Christ! Deny your will for His. You will find yourself real, prospering, and growing in grace.” Pastor Wilson (1-18-20140
