The kids and I are on our bi-annual visit to Beijing to stay in - TopicsExpress

The kids and I are on our bi-annual visit to Beijing to stay in our favorite hostel (really, thats the only reason we come, but if you were here youd understand). The hostel-people love the kids so much and tonight when the kids freaked about leaving to eat dinner (they dont want to set outside the hostel for a minute), they watched the kids and I was able to go have dinner with my new Australian friend, 77-year-old Len who decided on a whim to travel to Moscow to see the Red Square as hes always dreamed of doing, and then take the trans-Siberian railway to Mongolia where he stayed out in the wilds with nomads, and is finishing up his trip with a week in Beijing. He spent the day with us and it made me so jealous of his children and grandchildren--they are so lucky to have him and we were so lucky to meet him. We had dinner with another new guest, an older French woman turned Canadian citizen who is in China to learn Chinese for a few months, who has one son who is 25 and studying film in New York and a 35-year-old daughter who is in France with her 65-year-old not-husband life partner with whom she has a 6-year-old son. Id have to work really hard to have experiences like this back in the US. If you ever come to Beijing, I know exactly where you should stay.
