The killing of special animals/humans to appease gods is a regular - TopicsExpress

The killing of special animals/humans to appease gods is a regular feature of primitive religions in cultures all over the globe. We see this theme of gods demanding human or animal blood in ancient cultures of Europe, South America, Asia, Africa, and certainly in the Middle East. Christianity evolved out of this kind of influence, so it is not surprising that its central tenet features a god that also demands death for appeasement. It is also not surprising that the belief that killing a special human (or animal) provides sufficient atonement for entire communities, is seminal to Christian doctrine. Many ancient cultures featured belief that killing special humans (eg. virgins, first borns, etc) granted their communities special favors (or at least a vacation from the wrath) of their gods. Christianity isnt unique. Its a throwback to our primitive past and the superstitions that engulfed us. Its one of the last and most prominent remaining vestiges of the blood cults of our ancestors. They really thought that someone elses blood, had magic powers. So, when you hear someone say The blood will never lose its power...now you know a little of the history behind that notion.
