The lack of a consistent definition of homelessness is a contentious issue, however most research and programs focus on absolute homelessness[4] and public policy initiatives.[4] The Canadian Homelessness Research Network released the first Canadian Definition of Homelessness in 2012 [5] It also broke down the experience into 4 typologies: unsheltered, emergency sheltered, provisionally accommodated, and at risk of homelessness. The definition received a lot of support and also faced some criticism.[6]
