The largest known city from the Ancient Indus Valley Civilization-Ruins of Rakhigarhi City at Rakhi Shahpur Village in Hisar District; Haryana State; India. In 1963 archaeologists discovered that the village was the site of the largest known city of the so-called Indus Valley civilization, a city that was much larger and more ancient than Harappa and Mohenjodaro sites. It is situated on the dry bed of the river Sarasvati, which once flowed here and is believed to have dried up by 2000 BC. According to the archaeologists, Rakhigarhi is an ideal candidate to believe that the beginning of the Harappan civilisation took place in the Ghaggar Basin in Haryana and it gradually grew from here and slowly moved to the Indus valley.
