The last 2 years of my life has been the years in which I have done the most firsts than any others. I helped my best friend and her husband start a Juice company which we sweated over in summer heat at California farmers markets. We camped, swam in mountain lakes and dreamed of our futures. I spent weekends in San Francisco and at Big Sur. I went to Los Angeles to discover that I wasnt the Danny OConnor that I had perceived myself to be all along, and that Danny had been left in the past. I returned to Portland to be welcomed by everyone here who I love so much. Yall some crazzzyy colorful queers. We have been through a lot and keep trying to think up ways to contribute to this little rainy village that we adore. Ive had a desk job in corporate skyscrapers, worked at the best god damn local hotel this city has to offer and now Im a college student for the first time in 10 years. I have a house full of hetero bro misfits that share dinners and their lives with me. This post is a selfish one because I woke up in a bad mood. I put on Santigolds Disparate Youth and remembered when the shake up of my life began. Ashley and I had my whole life crammed in a van and we were bumping our jams as loud as we could as I was returning to California. She and I are family and we inspire each other, and at that time in that moment I was so damn excited for the future. I havent been of late, and I looked to that Danny 2 years ago to jump start some wonder. Ive got a lot to be thankful for. Tomorrow shouldnt be any less wondrous and possibility rich. Summer is coming. Weve got naked river trips, bon fires, kikis, camping and dinners to arrange. Im looking forward to whats to come for the first time in a long long while. I cant wait to see you.
