The last of my 40th anniversary of punk posts. Today it is 40 years since The Ramones made their debut at the famous CBGBs club, NYC. This may be footage of the gig but could be from about a month later. Either way its early - they are hardly the tight unit they later became, but its still remarkable in its ramshackle chaos. All the more poignant to think they are all no longer with us. Salut, les Ramones. Instead of going on about it on Facebook all the time, I have written a short article about CBGBs and the early New York punk scene for Sheffields Now Then magazine - hopefully for the September 14 issue.
