The last point I made in my talk was the opportunities technology - TopicsExpress

The last point I made in my talk was the opportunities technology and social media provided for legal teaching and learning. From a teaching point of view, how do you deal with a generation of students that are connected, who would rather be in Facebook, Twitter, or other social media than be in the library and read? One option is to forbid them, at least in your classroom. No wifi, no texting, no internet. For me, thats not an option as I do it myself so imposing such a prohibition on my students will be unfair. More important, it is a losing battle anyway because of the pervasiveness of technology and social media. My emerging strategy is to "invade" them in their turf, coopt them instead and engage them in their arena of choice. So I require my students from Ateneo and La Salle to like my Facebook page or, if they choose to, follow me in Twitter where I post announcements, assignments, questions for discussions, interesting materials from news articles to videos, etc. I find that because of that I am perpetually teaching and engaging my students. It is too early for me to say whether this is good pedagogically but certainly this is an interesting experiment.
