The last segment in the series we have been posting on creating golf swing speed through better coordination. Once coordination has been developed, emphasizing both mobility/acceleration and stability/deceleration of each body segment - pelvis/upper torso, upper torso/arms, arms/club (release) - we can then work on speed production using plyometric principles. One example would be a short response plyometric swing. The key to this exercise is creating a plyometric load during a swing pattern. The short response refers to a plyometric load that focuses on speed rather than momentum and range of motion. Emphasis here should be on feeling like you are swing the arms and club past the torso and lower body. This feel will promote the deceleration or stability of pelvis and upper torso to allow for a more effective kinetic link coordination.
