The latest match report just got in from Head Coach Rob...... Im still suffering from this weekends events, and I bet Im not the only one At long last, HEX managed to travel by train to their latest fixture, something that we havent done for some time. Lets hope that we can utilise this more although Im not sure that my head can actually manage it. Any how, as youve guessed, the lads this week travelled down to Hannover by, youve guessed it, train. A 3 hour journey with the ever dependable Tjark acting as the tour guide ensuring that the lads managed to get to the final destination in one piece. With this being the last game before the winter break, it was decided that the boys needed some serious moral boosting/bonding no matter what the outcome of the game was. Several players had returned back from injury and this would be their test game on the knowledge that there would be at least a 3 month break. With Odin at the top of the league, the emphasis was not necessarily down to obtaining a win (which would obviously be nice) but more on working for each other and earning the right to wear the shirt with pride. So to the first half 1st half With a heavy pitch, that if this was Hamburg would have caused the game to be called off, things were going to be hard going for both teams. HEX put up one hell of a fight, putting serious pressure on Odin in the scrum and challenging for every ball both at the break down and open play as though their lives depending on it. Both teams were moving the ball at every opportunity and it was only the mud at the breakdowns that prevented either team from playing a more free flowing game. Nik as no9 was having a fantastic competition with his opposite number with tackles and emotions running high in both players. Thomas on his last game was at last coming in off of the wing (as was Basti B) looking to run onto the ball at every opportunity and both made serous yardage and causing confusion for the opposition. Alexis was running his backs with precision (with only the pressure of the opposition preventing us from scoring/likewise for Odin). As for the pack, both Kai and Juan were causing serious problems with the flankers and No8 (Daniel) attacking the spaces at every opportunity. In essence, J lines were working, wings were looking for the ball, centres were looking to attack and Alex No15 was defending the rear guard effectively. Unfortunately, Odin did get on the score board with a well worked try although they failed not he kick. HEX however worked the ball well and camped out in the Odin 22 for a good 15 minutes, looking to get the points on the board. From the back of several scrums, Odin were in all sorts of trouble, unable to deal with the running of Daniel, Tjark, Basti R etc and were giving away penalties throughout. However HEX had decided they were going for the scrum and only just missed the line on several opportunities. Unfortunately The Gallic No10 Alexis was to come off worse, missing the try line by inches, he managed to damage his shoulder, thus earned the right to an early bath. Owen bravely took up the challenge, coming in from the centre allowing Lucas to come up and fit into the wing. The rest of the half prove to be a bit ebb and flow, with both teams looking to score but both being cancelled out by some great tackles and break down work. 1st Half Score Odin 5 v HEX 0 2nd Half The fist 10 minutes were similar to the last 10 minutes of the first half. However Odin finally worked out our weakness and started to attack the wings. With some well worked out play, they managed to produce several over laps, that HEX just couldnt cover in time, seeing them go over for the try. With the Scottish Bristolian suffering again with his neck, Ben M came onto the pitch following a length break with a shoulder injury. Unfortunately Ben lasted all of 10 minutes before testing his shoulder to the max and coming off second best. (as much as I hate the winter breaks, at least it gives guys time to recover etc). This saw Tim come onto the pitch (again following a lengthy break with a shoulder injury (although he did get 10 minutes in the last game)). Unfortunately, although HEX were fighting till the end, it was Odin that managed to get on to the board 2 more times. Talking of Tim. His First tackle last week saw the referee call the end to the match, and strangely the same happened this time too. Maybe, next game, we should just get a quick kick in, get the points on the board and then put Tim on allowing the referee to call an end to the game. A little radical but hey, it could be our new tactic. Fairs fair, Odin did have that little bit more our nowce/savvi to be able to work the win, but HEX most defiantly earned the right to wear their shirts. Both teams were carrying some serious bruises but the HEX boys at least had a big smile on their faces, eve if they werent quite the smiles of a win. 2nd Half Score Odin 21 v HEX 0 3rd Half. We won. We won the train ride and we won in Harburg. Absolutely no idea what happened after that, nor am I really interested.... Big thanks to Basti B for sorting Thomas out........ Big thanks to all that made the game and the 3rd half. Total respect to Juan for actually making it back into town (thanks for the update Martin) Me, I think I got back at 3 in the morning, only for my kids to wake me up 3 hours later with little, if any sympathy from the other half because it was her day for a lie in........ ah well So Christmas/winter break now. We will still meet up for training, just some fun stuff before the Christmas bash (respect to the guys organising that and Im sure it will be a cracker (sorry crap joke but I did say that Im still suffering)). Lets see if Father Christmas will bring us some more players this year as there are at least 3 if not more guys leaving our shores (Bloody French). lets hope we can get a few beers with them before they go. Right Oh, me done, see you guys later Best Rob
