The latest press release for AitA! ART IN THE ARBORETUM Saturday, Oct. 5 – 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6 – Noon to 4 p.m. For Immediate Release: August 8, 2013 Art in the Arboretum Presents Art, Music, Activities Visitors to the Cape Fear coast’s premier fall art show will have a wealth of art, music and activities to explore and enjoy. Art in the Arboretum 2013, slated for Oct. 5, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Oct. 6, noon to 4 p.m., will feature nature-inspired jewelry and metal smith creations, divisions that launched last year. Other two- and three- dimensional categories include glass, textiles and stepping stones, with wood, painting and photography rounding out the menu. Popular local musicians will add to the festive atmosphere with continuous performances on Saturday and Sunday. A joint venture between the Friends of the Arboretum and the Wilmington Art Association, the show happens at the Arboretum, 6206 Oleander Drive. Planners say the gardens’ vibrant fall colors always provide a vivid showcase for creativity. “Art in the Arboretum is now a juried event, which enhances the quality of the pieces we receive,” said Sue Watkins, who chairs the planning committee. “And it’s all for a wonderful cause because proceeds go to the Arboretum and its programs, a valuable community resource.” A special art exhibit and sale sponsored by the Ability Garden, as well as a children’s art activity area managed by the Children’s Museum of Wilmington also are popular draws. Besides participating in leaf painting and other projects, youngsters can join in a scavenger hunt on the Arboretum grounds. Budding young artists also have painted garden-themed banners to adorn the Arboretum’s grounds during the two-day celebration. Call or email Anita Jacques, 910-409-4064 or anitajacquesart@gmail for art submission information and show details.
