The latest that I know: Trauma doctor has given us the head to toe results of evaluations. Head: there are no fractures, broken bones, or bleeding. Her face is swollen and has petechiae. Her eyes have broken vessels as well, but no bleeding or tears that they can see at this time. They will keep an eye on it. They believe this was caused when she stopped breathing for a short amount of time and the blood rushed to your head when the accident occured. Neck & spine: There are no fractures and they look clear. They will monitor. Chest area: There are soft call fractures on the top 2 ribs on the left side. They are not concerned about these and feel they will heal fine. Her lungs are good but bruised. Her left lung more than the right. They will be keeping an eye on this, she is at a higher risk for pneumonia because of the bruising & not being able to cough very easily. Abdominal area: There is blood in her lower belly. They believe this is from the fractures that occured on her hips & pelvis area. They will keep an eye on this because sometimes in accidents like this the bowels can be damaged. There isnt any evidence of damage at this time, but will be monitoring for any changes. Her spleen is not damaged. Her kidneys & other organs look good. They will be watching the pancreas closely. Her levels are good at this time. She has some abrasions on her back on the right side. There is a patch of skin that is very raw. Hips & pelvis: Both hips are fractured. The left side has several fractures. The lower pelvis has fractures on both sides. She will have to be immobilized for some time. They are coming up with a plan of action on how to keep her from being mobile. The healing process can take several weeks to a few months. Orthopedics will assess to determine if surgery will be necessary, but because the fractures were clean they feel they may heal on their own. We will know more later today. Legs & feet: There are abrasions on her right leg & foot. No fractures. Vitals are good!
