The law and judgments are certainly keeping up with technology. So be very careful what you publish on social media websites such as facebook. As one Facebook user learnt a few days ago when a North Gauteng High Court held him co-responsible for the publication of defamatory material. The Court ordered him and his wife to pay R40,000 in damages as well costs. Although he was not the author of the defamatory remarks, he was held liable as he had allowed his name to be "tagged" on facebook. His wife had made defamatory remarks on facebook that referred to his ex-wife,plaintiff in this case,which was deeply injurious to her reputation.
