The legendary actress Cicely Tyson turns 81 years old today. Her extraordinary performances on film and television made her an iconic figure before she reached the age of 50 years old. Hollywood was not up to the challenge of her talent. Still she has managed to consistently work and create some of the most memorable characters of the past 50 years; Rebecca from Sounder, Miss Jane Pittman, Sweets from A Hero Aint Nothing But A Sandwich, Wilma Rudolph, Corretta Scott King, Binta from Roots, Marva Collins, Mrs. Browne from The Women of Brewster Place, Jordan Roosevelt from The Road to Galveston, Mama Flora, and Mrs. Watts from this years television film of her Broadway triumph in The Trip to Bountiful. It has just been announced that she will guest star on an upcoming episode of HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER and she has three films in production including the feature directorial debut of one of her most frequent co-stars Louis Gossett Jr!
