The level of hypocrisy from the right on Obamacare is incredible. It shows their fundamental ignorance of their own history for the sole purpose of politics (AKA Obama). Many on the right have a fundamental disagreement over the individual mandate. What many who do not know is that the individual mandate is a REPUBLICAN idea! On October 2, 1989, the Heritage Foundation (owned by Pat Robertson) sponsored a lecture series . One of the lectures was by a man named Stuart Butler. In it , Mr. Butler, who is a Republican said, “[N]either the federal government nor any state requires all households to protect themselves from the potentially catastrophic costs of a serious accident or illness. Under the Heritage plan, there would be such a requirement... Society does feel a moral obligation to insure that its citizens do not suffer from the unavailability of health care. But on the other hand, each household has the obligation, to the extent it is able, to avoid placing demands on society by protecting itself...A mandate on households certainly would force those with adequate means to obtain insurance protection. (I have others If you wish). In 1993, the Republicans in the Senate introduced 2 bills (Consumer Choice Health Security Act (SB 1743) and the Health Equity and Access Reform Today Act (SB 1770), in which both mandated universal coverage. And of course, there is Romneycare. The right has always called for individual mandates and universal coverage. But now politics is involved and suddenly, whats good for the goose is not good for the gander. LEARN SOME HISTORY FOLKS. I make my students research this topic and many of them on the right come out with a different perspective.
