The life cycle of commercial televised entertaiment. Tv shows - TopicsExpress

The life cycle of commercial televised entertaiment. Tv shows are bought by commercial networks for the sole purpose of increasing ratings (viewership numbers). How does this get them paid? It increases the value and viabillity of a network as an advertising platform. The network then sells spots in and around shows to advertisers who pay differing fees based on a particular shows popularity as well as time of day (prime time being the most pricey due to high viewer traffic) This money then cycles back to capital (and network exec bonuses of course) that a network will use to buy tv series (this is how tv shows make their money) to keep ratings and thus advertiser interest up, sometimes, the network wont actually buy the shows, they may just share ad profits directly with production...this is some serious money by the way. When a show becomes really popular, it becomes syndicated meaning it can now be bought from and carted away from its parent network...this means the show is now being paid multiples of what it originally made, and this money goes straight to and only to the producers, and maybe the starring cast, not sure..but the rest of the production crew wont get a cent beyond what they earned during production. In conclusion, what this means is tv shows are just big fat ads aimed at advertisers, through us, who then return the favour by bombarding us back directly with actual ads. This is why I prefer to work in entertainment and not be a complete slave to it. muhahahahahahaha
