The local and interest people are hopeful of forming The Cambanoora (Condamine) Gorge Management Group. The gorge holds important environmental, diodiversity, natural and cultural and heritage significance for both the original peoples and to the European communtiy. The gorge road transverses upwards from Killarney, crossing the Condamine River 13 times before transversing the range at the crossing of the Boonah - Killarney and Whiteclifs Roads. The road is dirt and suitable to 4x4 vehicls only. CMPA have carried out several cultural heritage assessments of the gorge over the years. The gorge was first open by European timber getters in the 1860s and several small hamlet community developed around timber mills at strategic sites along the road. The first meeting for the formation of a committee is planned for Tuesday 15 ctober , 4pm at the CWA Hall, Willow St. Killarney. Please come along if you have an interest in the preservation of this special place.
