Box 3243 Telephone: +251-11-5517700 Fax: +251-11-5517844 website: au.int UPCOMING DIASPORA EVENTS (JUNE – SEPTEMBER 2014) The Citizens and Diaspora Directorate (CIDO) of the African Union wishes to inform the African Diaspora Community worldwide about upcoming Diaspora events the third quarter of 2014 as follows: 1. The Ancestry Reconnection Program (APR) in Salvador Da Bahia in Brazil from 9- 11 July 2014. This is a gathering to celebrate Pan-Africanism and a reunion of the African people that will also mark the end of yearlong activities to commemorate the founding of the OAU/AU. It is also designed to use the occasion of the global focus on the World Cup to advertise the goals and purpose of the AU and its emphasis on rebuilding the global African family. This program of the AU will be held in collaboration with ARK Jammers connection. It will involve socio-cultural dialogue to celebrate Africa-Brazil linkages, a symposium and roundtable, gastronomic dialogue to show case our common roots and similarities, musical extravaganza and a football game between African and Brazilian players. 2. Plans and preparations for the inaugural meeting of the Technical Committee on Legacy Projects between 25-31 July 2014. 3. The establishment of the Global Parliamentarian Diaspora Network including all parliamentarians of African Descent in various parts of the world. The 1st Global Parliamentarian Diaspora Parliamentary Forum was held in South Africa in May 2012 just before the Global Diaspora Summit. This is a follow-up that will consolidate it into a network. The Forum is being organized by CIDO in collaboration with the Pan-African Parliament (PAP). The first preparatory meeting was held on 7-8 April 2014 and the second and final preparatory meeting will be held in late June 2014. An announcement will be made subsequently on the precise dates of the meeting but it is anticipated to be in August 2014 to give proper lead time for preparation. 4. CIDO is also consulting with the Caribbean African Diaspora Network (CPAN) on the feasibility of the plans for a CPAN network consolidation meeting in September 2014. 5. The Africa-US Leaders Summit will be held in August 2014 and we are receiving and considering proposals to hold a side event for the Diaspora on the margins of the Summit. CIDO and the AUC will be happy to receive your proposals and suggestions in this regard. These are the upcoming programs and meetings of the Diaspora in the third quarter of 2014. We will be reporting on progress and outcomes and will also provide subsequent follow-up on plans and programs of the last quarter (September-December 2014).
