The loss of our connection to a genuine Mother Earth experience is so profoundly entrenched in our culture. Today I did an experiment with my college students. We spent 10 mins outside and became aware of our feelings and thoughts outside. Then we did the same exercise indoors. Their sharing afterwards was so raw and authentic. Several students cried as they described the transition from outdoors to inside where we sat in a prefabricated building and a windowless classroom. They felt alone in their sadness, a few explained, as they felt that not only are we to accept the seperation from nature that weve created in our human created world but we are also not supposed to talk about it. It seems that the idea of not conforming and needing nature are still too radical for the mainstreamed consciousness. Its experiences like today that profoundly affect me and inspire me to radicalize a few more hearts and minds.
