The lost roads of Leeds. Wellington Road and Gelderd Road then and now. Ive often see this photo of the engine crossing Wellington Road, but Ive never been able to pin point the actual location. Leeds has changed dramatically over the years, and many places on the old photos have changed beyond all recognition. This 1956 scene at the Wortley Gas Works on Wellington Road shows Ruston & Hornsby locomotive captured holding up the oncoming tram and traffic. Wellington Road split the gas works into two halves at the time, and this small engine made regular trips across this road between the two parts of the works. The whole area has been swallowed up by the Armley Gyratory today. But closer inspection of aerial images reveal the course of Wellington Road, and Gelderd Road still exist in the middle of the roundabout. **See all the comments below for the full story**
