The louder a child says, I dont care! the more you can be sure, s/he cares plenty! So whats going on here? The child is, in all likelihood, denying his true feelings. When a child experiences uncomfortable feelings, he can:1) become sad or upset (an untenable proposition for many strong willed kids) or 2) he can fight the feeling so that he becomes callous and insensitive to the uncomfortable feeling. The child doesnt want to feel sad or upset so he refuses to acknowledge those feelings. A callous and insensitive mindset, followed by callous and insensitive behavior, is the natural result… The Fix? Develop a deep understanding of feelings and feelings work so you can explain them in simple language to children.
