The main thing Ronnie remembered about the journey to San Rafael - TopicsExpress

The main thing Ronnie remembered about the journey to San Rafael was of the spiritual oneness he felt with the Golden Gate Bridge. And with Kristen. With everyone in the van, but especially with Kristen. As the van traveled up the gently twisting roads her head rested on his shoulder. He thought his heart would burst. A couple of times he reached up and stroked her hair, but even in this altered state he decided that this was all he should do. He looked out the window. Brilliant colors exploded on the side of the road. He could have wept for the beauty of it. He was discovered by the searing gaze of the sun the next morning. He lay in bed for several seconds, hoping that he could deduce where he might be - geographically. Its bright here, he said. There is air. Thats a good thing. Is there water? I think Id like some. Whats that sound? I think I hear electric guitar. Yes, and amplified bass. And a trap set. And there was that smell. Burning rope, except much more ancient. Id like some of that too. After the water. Phrogg walked in with a wreath of smoke swirling behind him. Ronald! Good day! There is coffee to be had. And some oatmeal. And marijuana. And a beautiful day on the patio. Phrogg, damnation! Ronnie rubbed his face and hair. That was a get acquainted dose? Lord have mercy! Ah, yes, well, said Phrogg. Math calculations are not really Zaps strong suit. He was a little bit off, lets say. You had something close to four grams of the magic. Jesus. Is Kris okay? “Shes out on the deck, with coffee, giving her feet a sun tan, Ronnie took a hit of Phroggs joint when offered, and wandered through the door in search of coffee. Krazy Kat peeking through a lace bandana like a one-eyed Cheshire like a diamond-eyed jack A leaf of all colors plays a golden string fiddle to a double-e waterfall over my back. Kristen smiled at him when he came out to the patio. It was huge. At the far end of the patio began a weathered wooden stairway that plunged and then right-angled down to the shore. There was a pier that jutted out into the bay. You dont look any the worse for wear, he said. He could see Zap, Stardust and Melanie down at the pier. Im great, she said. Did they tell you about Zaps miscalculation? Yep. Quite a ride, that was. I could tell something was... not accurate. I was hoping to get acquainted, but I guess were like best pals now. No sense in being half assed, I guess. It was quite wonderful. Being a Monday, its a workday for Brad, she said. Or half of one, she said. Anyway, he said eat, drink, smoke, drop, whatever anybody wants to do. I have a suggestion for what to do, he said. Whats that? Nothing. I mean, nothing beyond the suggested eating drinking, smoking and dropping. I think I could manage that. They did just that. However, freaks doing nothing for a day doesnt require a detailed narrative. But nothing was done in a beautiful setting, with a soundtrack that included Aoxomoxoa, which played either five or eleven times, though no one was counting. from The Palmetto: Adventures with the Southern Underground.
