The mainstream media came under fierce criticism and ridicule for censoring all news of the protests during the first few days, only to launch a still-ongoing disinformation campaign. Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) has punished four small television channels who chose not to follow suit. Halk TV, Ulusal TV, Cem TV and EM TV were issued a warning and fined for "instigating violence" and "broadcasting programs that may lead to impairment of the physical, mental, and moral development of young people and children".
