The majority of “Christian” churches in this country are preaching a mixture of law and grace. They’re telling their people that they have to avoid sin, that they have to live holy lives, that they have to be free from sin; but then by their preaching and by their teaching they are putting their followers in absolute bondage to sin and making it impossible for them to be free from the very thing that they are preaching against. Look what the scriptures say. The law came in to INCREASE the trespass. Through the law comes the KNOWLEDGE OF SIN. The law brings WRATH. The commandment made sin COME ALIVE. Sinful passions ARE AROUSED by the law. Can you see it? The main purpose of the law, the very thing that it was intended to do was this: INCREASE SIN AND MAKE IT IMPOSSIBLE TO STOP SINNING! Why? Because when people experience the bondage and the pain and the awful consequences of being a slave to sin, it leads them to Christ! The law is good for the one purpose that it was intended for – to INCREASE sin and bring people to Christ! It was intended to bring people to the new covenant of grace. And instead of letting the law do what it’s supposed to do, we (the modern day Christian church) have embraced it and we try to live by. Just browse some of the mainstream “Christian” ministry Facebook pages and it will jump out at you! You’ll see tons of Old Testament scriptures that are not even relevant to us as New Covenant Believers. It’s like we are just blindly teaching the entire bible without discretion and with no division between the old and new covenant! It’s the ultimate mental and emotional torture – we preach and tell people that they have to avoid sin, that they have to live holy lives, that they have to get serious about sin and that they have the focus on avoiding sin. But then, WE FAIL to share with them the one thing that can set them free - His Grace! And instead, we share the law with them which is the one thing that will keep them from ever being free! You’ll never be free from sin as long as you are trying to keep the law. You will never be free from sin as long as you are focused on your performance. You will never be free from sin as long as you are trying to live by any set of rules, laws, SCRIPTURES or commandments. You will never be free from sin as long as you think that your sin or you lack of sin has anything to do with your salvation or you’re standing with God! “Now the law came in to increase the trespass….” (Romans 5:20) “For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin.” (Romans 3:20) “For the law brings wrath, but where there is no law there is no transgression.” (Romans 4:15) “The very commandment that promised life proved to be death to me.” (Romans 7:10) “I was once alive apart from the law, but when the commandment came, sin came alive and I died.” (Romans 7:9) “Now if the ministry of death, carved in letters on stone, came with such glory that the Israelites could not gaze at Moses’ face because of its glory, which was being brought to an end,” (2 Corinthians 3:7) For while we were living in the flesh, our sinful passions, aroused by the law, were at work in our members to bear fruit for death. (Romans 7:5)
