The middle class is growing ? ----------------------------------- The place where the emerging, growing middle class is visible is in private universities. Hundreds join the campuses everyday but interestingly few have well off parents. I would say about 20% are well off. But at least 30% are from stressed economic households including from outside Dhaka. Many work, many walk and few have the money to indulge in bad habits. Bengali parents have always invested in education to move ahead and its the same now. About 10% of my students are hijabi types and equal number are into lifestyles but the rest 80% are just middle class kids trying to make it. But all are -shouting, giggling, studying- part of a new Bangladesh. Somehow I love it all.
