The modesty of the Prophet (Peace be upon him) The Prophet - TopicsExpress

The modesty of the Prophet (Peace be upon him) The Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) was very modest and shy; in fact, he was a perfect model of modesty. Faith was the Prophet’s clothes, modesty was his quilt and high morals were his loincloth. “He was more modest than a virgin in her tent (her seclusion or her curtain)”. He (peace be upon him) would be shy around whom the angels are shy, as he said when Uthman (May Allah be pleased with him) asked permission to enter while the Prophet was lying down with his thighs or his calves exposes, then the Prophet sat up and straightened his clothing and said Should I not be shy of a man around whom the angels are shy? (Narrated by Muslim) Once, on his (peace be upon him) wedding night to one of the mothers of the believers, the Companions came to eat from the wedding banquet but they stayed setting until the time was too late and this annoyed the Prophet. Upon this Almighty Allah revealed: (O you who believe! Enter not the Prophets houses,- until leave is given you,- for a meal, (and then) not (so early as) to wait for its preparation: but when you are invited, enter; and when you have taken your meal, disperse, without seeking familiar talk. Such (behavior) annoys the Prophet: he is ashamed to dismiss you, but Allah is not ashamed (to tell you) the truth.) (Ahzab: 53), the modesty of the Prophet (peace be upon him) prevented him from asking his Companions to go out (disperse). Another example of the modesty of the Prophet (Peace be upon him) when a woman once came to ask him how to purify herself, he answered her but she did not understand, she asked the Prophet again and again but he (Peace be upon him) felt ashamed and turned away from her (out of Shy). It was reported also that the Prophet (Peace be upon him) said: “Modesty is part of faith and faith is in Paradise, but obscenity is a part of hardness of heart and hardness of heart is in Hell” (Narrated by at-Tirmidhi). He also said: “Faith is composed of seventy and odd branches and the sense of modesty is an important branch of Faith.” (Narrated by Muslim) that is because the modesty like the shield which prevents one from committing a sin. The modest man always fears from the scandal in this life and in the Hereafter. “Modesty and faith are both companions: when one is taken away the other is taken” (Al-Mustadrak in Al-Bukhari and Muslim) If modesty has this high rank in Islam, no wonder then if the Prophet (peace be upon him) was the modest man of all, he (peace be upon him) further said “Modesty brings nothing but good” (Narrated by Al-Bukhari)
