The moment that you start seeing cosplay as a competition or - TopicsExpress

The moment that you start seeing cosplay as a competition or career, is the moment the spark in it begins fading in you. The moment that you choose characters based off of whats most popular rather than what you genuinely love, is the moment people stop seeing something special in your rendition of that character. The moment that you cant see anything but your own results and numbers, is the moment those close to you become reluctant to share the hobby with you. Try to remember what made you begin the hobby in the first place. Remember the fact that when you were a newbie and had no experience and everyone around you was more talented-- you didnt think about that. You didnt think about competition. You didnt think about professionalism. You simply marvelled at the people with the big costumes (who knew other people liked that series too?!), took photos of them, spoke with them about how much you loved that character/series.... Nowadays its sad how many people are losing themselves to the hype that cosplay has become. This hobby will never be a profession or a career. It will never pay your bills. You came to it as an escape from reality or a means to express how much you love these characters..how much these characters touched you.. or saved you.. when you had no one else. Cosplaying is the gateway between these characters make me feel less alone and these people who also love these characters make me feel less alone If you end up too caught up in your own fame or likes or reblogs or guest cosplayer invitations or sponsors, youre going to drive those around you away. No one enjoys being around someone who cant hold a conversation unless its about themselves and cosplay..... Practice humility and acceptance, and treat others with the respect, happiness, and equality that you did when you went to your first convention and discovered that you were really less alone than you always felt......
