The moment when you wake up with the hope that your fellow countrymen have realized how inhumane they have been in their vitriol towards the children who are dying to have the liberty (or at least the justice) that our country offers to those who make it here alive from countries far away where their lives were at such risk that their parents made the desperate decision to send them to a country who (many many years ago) passed a law stating that they would be protected, if they could just survive the dangers and (all too often) abuses of the people transporting them... and you realize that there are still too many so-called educated people screaming that they should be immediately shipped back. shipped back??? to what and without following the laws that were unanimously reauthorized by Congress back in 2008 and signed by another president than the one whom you are blaming the entire current human tragedy on? We are a nation of laws!!! Isnt that what you have been standing on for years now? These are CHILDREN, not an inanimate object that can be immediately returned to sender because its not the right style or because we have too many in stock or because we cant afford to maintain it. Your elected representatives in Congress passed the legislation, and for most of the people who are so vitriolic about the situation, YOUR choice of PRESIDENT signed it into law. Instead of losing your humanity, may I suggest that if you dont like the laws or the currently broken immigration system, that you help elect someone else to represent you in Congress? Unless you feel that your current representative is acceptable and will have the determination to actually sit at the table with others and develop a solution other than the same talking points that they rely on every election (for decades) to get you angry enough to donate your time or treasure to their team... Wonder why you are so frustrated? Are you the least bit concerned that you feel so angry about your government that you are calling for children to be thrown back over the border without the consideration of their health or well being? You are being played. Played by the politicians who dont want the immigration system fixed because it removes their ability to fire up the base and get out the vote... played by the media... who rely on the tragedies of our world to build their viewership to be able to sell air time to the corporations who then pay off the politicians to make sure that they can have a seat at the corporate crony table to pass laws that ensure that they are protected from the laws that you have to live by because you voted for and supported the candidate who was assumed to be a representative of your views because they had the same letter on their team jersey that you wear. Meanwhile, you work harder and harder every day to keep a roof over your familys head and food on your familys table... and yet, you still believe that your team captains are better than the other teams captains. That is why you are frustrated and angry and that is how so many have lost their humanity. They are children... a desperate parents child who traveled many miles for the liberty & justice that we have been insisting upon for so many years in our country. Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame, With conquering limbs astride from land to land; Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame. Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp! cries she With silent lips. Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!
