The most blatant symbols of Freemasonrys obsession with Egypt are not hidden in its temples. They stand on public view in the centre of London, Paris, New York, and Washington. How they came to be erected shows both the immense power of Freemasons in the nineteenth century and their love affair with the most evocative symbol of all egyptian religion: the obelisk. The obelisks were set up in pre-Columbian American civilizations, ancient Egypt and Asian civilizations. They were placed at the center of the ritual and symbolic places of gathering. (See Paul Devereuxs works). Egyptian obelisk can be found in Piazza San Pietro, Vatican. Obelisks were found in Ancient Greece, The Roman Empire, Mesopotamia, Sumeria and Egypt. It seems rather odd that all of the cities around the world just seemed obtain/build obelisks at random. But why?
