The most effective way to destroy people is to deny and obliterate - TopicsExpress

The most effective way to destroy people is to deny and obliterate their own understanding of their history. - George Orwell This quote captures why it is imperative that people of African descent unearth and celebrate our contributions to world civilization in every sphere of life from the sciences to the arts to law to philosophy, etc. of all groups of people, it appears that our history is the most obscure, marginalized and distorted of them all. While imitation is considered the highest form of flattery, all groups of people should guard against the appropriation of their contributions to the point where they are no longer given any credit. Check out Pythagoras, you have to scour the history books to glean that the he and the early Greek mathematicians studied under the black Egyptians who were more mathematically advanced. Today, parents go to the stores to buy baby slings and carriers with patents mostly registered under non-Blacks, but these patents are inspired by and based on baby carriers Africans and Asians used for centuries. I, like my ancestors, used a wrapper to carry my kids on my back, but didnt patent it. In centuries to come, if we dont document this part of our contribution, documentaries will be made that will give no credit to the origins of this modern baby slings. Whatever your lineage, however modest your history, take time it document it. Future generations will look to you for their identity and if they dont get the truth, they will be as lost as a lead detached from a tree going anywhere the wind takes it.
