The most f*cked up conundrum. Ive acquired quite a bit of skill (which Ill be able to show once I can release all these projects) BUT Im not able to utilize them on a lot of projects just because Im not really raking in even 25% of what pro artist pull in on a project. So Im kind of forced to keep high quality but at the same be conscious that I cant spend an insane amount of time project to keep clients happy. Its kind of driving me insane too cause Im like damn, I know Im better than this but I cant even afford to put too much time into it which keeps people thinking this is cap of what Im currently capable of and really the only work I can use to promote myself cause of the workload I have to take in. Ultimately one is gonna give way for the other. As much as I love indie work, its not practical to live off of unless youre working with clients who have a serious ROI on their projects. Im about 85% confident Im ready for pro after getting a preview of some pros in the industry work (so happy I dont need to draw to the caliber of Stanley Lau or Jeffrey Cruz to get a gig...I think) but I need to be able to put time into a portfolio to prove so, but with me moving more toward 100% digital production, a Cintiq is going to be needed. Money will be there by the end of this month BUT the problem is: A:) I can save the loot up which allows me to take a few months from having to take commission work, but Im not really optimizing my speed digitally OR B.) Buy the Cintiq, pump out work a lot quicker, but still having to take on commission projects So Im gonna sit and and think on this one cause by March, I gotta get this grind out of 2nd gear.
