The most important thing in my life and your life is and should be OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST! The most important desire, pursuit and achievement in life is - That I might know Him. Our Family, friends, spouse, health , education, career etc. are all important. However , these have really been over rated and in many of our lives we have one of these things at the top of our list. Your family will let you down! - Ask Joseph how his brothers sold him into slavery out of jealousy Gen 37: 2-36, or ask David how his son Absalom , whom he loved was intent on killing him, even though Absalom knew that David loved him too much to harm him.2Sam 16:20—19:2. Your friends will come and go! As we could see from the experience of Job. Job 4:23, Job 8:22. Your husband or wife may forsake you! Ask Samson he was not on a long business trip when his wife, the Philistine woman in Timnah, hooked up with another man and did not look back for Sampson. Judges 14: 1-20 Your health will fail one day!- Take a look at the fall of Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon. Dan 4. Education, Careers and money will not matter when you draw your last breath! Happiness will fade away! Our Relationship With Christ Phil 3v8-9a This Relationship Is Invaluable - v8 Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellencey of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, Paul is saying that he considers everything else worthless because he was much better off knowing Christ Jesus as Lord. Because of Christ Paul considered everything else to be worthless. Dung –– Refuse; this carries the idea of that which is no more useful for the purpose it had served, and is detestable in its present state. . We must look at the context of this scripture. Just as we mentioned in the introduction Paul has just described all of the things that he once put faith in. Now he states that none of these things matter. What about us? Can we truly say that your relationship with the Savior is the most important thing in your life? II. Our Righteousness Through Christ v9b-9c We did not, will not, do not & can not receive God’s approval by obeying his laws. A. The Price That Is Involved – v9b not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, Our righteousness comes through Christ alone! By faith in the person, works and position of our Lord Jesus Christ are we saved not by works least any man should boast. III. Our Response To Christ v10 A. The Comprehension In This Response - v10a That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, There are many things that come with our response to Christ, The salvation experience begins with the conviction of the Holy Spirit. Once we surrender to Christ and make Him Lord of our life, and we continue in fellowship with him, we will truly know Him in an extremely personal way. we will come to know the power of his resurrection “ to know beyond a shadow of doubt that the same power that enabled Jesus to overcome death is the same power that enables us to overcome in life. The same power of a victorious Saviour is the same power available to be a victorious saint.” We do not have to live enslaved to a life of sin, lust, failure, and defeat. Jesus was a conqueror over death, hell, and the grave; by His resurrection power we can be conquerors over the world, the flesh, and the devil.” the fellowship of Christ Suffering....to the point where we would will to suffer because of our faith in the Lord Jesus. Paul writing to the Corinthians church in 2 Cor 4:17 For our light affliction, which is but a moment, worketh for us a more exceeding and eternal weight of glory. All that Paul suffered- shipwreck, beatings, imprisonment etc., he see them as light affliction compared to the glory that awaits. What is the extent to which you and I want to know Christ. Accept Jesus Christ as Lord and saviour now Recommit your life to God Pray for the grace and hunger for the knowledge of Christ that will make us make Christ the most important person in our life.
