The most resilient elements of ecosystems are not the strongest, fastest, fittest, or smartest... They are the ones that have proven themselves to be indispensable to the rest of the system, that have the most connections. By providing shade, shelter, and likely food to the surrounding elements (animals, birds, etc), they reward the tree by travelling miles to deliver nutrients (urine, fecal matter, etc) directly to where the tree it most; right to the roots. Trees are rooted the strongest and deepest into the Earth of any beings. There is a reason why they have been here so long, and why they will continue to be here long after we have come and gone. Celebrate the wisdom of the trees...
