The myth of transition: This week there seems to be a theme of transition in conversations with my spouse, my colleagues, my friends, my family and even interns I have talked with. As someone who has moved this past month, started a new job recently and gone through many life changes in the past few years, I have wanted to give my thoughts on this topic of transition but I havent wanted to overstep or sound insensitive. So here you go! I think I am leaning toward a theory that transition is a myth. Yes, there will be seasons where there will be more upheaval, confusion, lack of routine, or unanswered questions from God, however I think if we default to calling these moments a period of transition then we fail to appreciate or be grateful for where we are today. What if today you are exactly where God wants you to be? What if this isnt a transition time but Gods best for you right NOW? As many know, this past year I experienced a job layoff and spent nearly 9 months doing freelance work and going back to school. It wasnt until I let go of the idea that I was in some sort of transition period that I began to fully appreciate the here & now...without constantly saying whats next? Instead, I had to reach a place where I could daily thank God for my life as is and trust that He had me exactly where I was supposed to be in that very moment. My advice for those of you going through transitions right now...challenge yourself to stop calling this a season of transition and start daily spending that energy on being grateful or appreciating the moment. Even if its not your definition of perfect, I trust that God has you perfectly where He wants you. Or maybe think of it this way- ALL of life is a season of transition where we are daily changing and evolving to become the best versions of ourselves and who God created us to become.
