The national argument we are currently engaged in is, ultimately, - TopicsExpress

The national argument we are currently engaged in is, ultimately, pointless. We are approaching the illegal alien invasion crisis from the wrong angle, on both sides of this debate. Should we be demonizing these children for their self-serving actions? What child isnt self-serving? So, no, thats not the answer. Should we be lambasting the Obama administration for its actions? Well, truth be told, Im all for lambasting the Obama administration whenever possible, but since those kids are here, then no, that wont solve the problem. Does calling Conservatives child-haters because we are tired of having our elected officials turn on us, and spend our tax dollars to promote an agenda with which we vehemently disagree, get the problem fixed? Well, they can try, but it will ultimately accomplish nothing. Should we continue to spend our energy and intellect bashing Liberals instead of solving problems? Well, again, it can be fun but it ultimately accomplishes nothing. As a complete novelty, perhaps a solution that actually IS a solution should be proposed? Lets do a little math here: As I understand it, each of these childrens travel cost their parents between $3,000.00 and $8,000.00. Now, that amount multiplied by the roughly 55,000 to 60,000 kids already here, with more coming, adds up to a really significant amount of money. It goes well into the hundreds of millions of dollars when considered collectively. That is, in fact, the kind of money that can accomplish large-scale social changes when applied intelligently. When you add the fact that there are millions more who are likely saving for the same thing right now, the money pool expands dramatically. As things stand now, THAT is the kind of money that is going to, and enriching, criminals. What is my point? Simply put: Instead of spending Billions of dollars to deal with refugees from broken countries, why dont we use a little intelligence, and spend a few Million to educate these people on how to spend their own money to fix their own countries? With the kind of money they are spending on coyotes now, hiring and equipping actual, effective law enforcement officers is possible. We could bring a nucleus of volunteers here and train them in techniques, and in how to train others, and send them home. Selective recruitment would be the key to success here. The corruption problem could be addressed by looking for people who are sick of having to send their own children to a far-away land in order to offer them any hope. There are those who will say that the corruption problem is unsolvable, and this plan would be doomed to failure. Well, I think that we should attack the corruption problem as vigorously as we have been attacking each other. Since I have spent time in San Salvador, and more than a little time in several places in Honduras, and almost every other country in both Central and South America, I do have a little base of knowledge from which to draw these conclusions. I admit, it has been several years, so my knowledge of specifics is out of date. But Im betting my cultural experience is still quite relevant. My experience is that the average person is both proud and hard-working, as well as honest to a fault. The vast majority subscribe to the Catholic version of Christianity, and all that entails. Their primary inhibiting factor is that they feel they have no voice in determining what happens in the larger picture, that self-determination is simply and forever beyond their reach. These are the people, family leaders who are so desperate they are shipping their own children off to the unknown hoping for improvement, among whom we should recruit. What I propose is that we look beyond our individual political bias here, and reach out as a unified force to help the honest individuals in these countries to help themselves. And, to ultimately help us, at least with this specific problem. The payoff? Simply put, if their countries are no longer bloody battlegrounds: 1. They won’t keep up the invasion (or will at least curtail it drastically). 2. We can, in good conscience, send these children home, and Liberals will lose any moral high ground claims about how heartless we are for sending them back. 3. Criminals will no longer be enriched by this entire process. 4. Border Patrol can go back to some semblance of their normal jobs. 5.Most importantly, we can go back to work solving our own sizeable problems, instead of fighting with each other over someone else’s problems. OR, we can just continue to let politicians set us against each other, and continue to pay them to do so. I do not claim to be omniscient or anything even close. It is completely possible that there are substantial flaws in this plan which I have completely overlooked. My point is not that everyone should just shut up and do as I say. My point is that we should all stop shouting at each other, and try instead to produce solutions instead of further strife. Thanks for your attention.
