The natural diet of mammals is a high-fat diet. By high-fat I - TopicsExpress

The natural diet of mammals is a high-fat diet. By high-fat I mean at least 50%. Gorillas have abdomens that are twice as large as their chests and have a very large stomach. They use this large gut to ferment fiber and cellulose from plant matter to produce short-chain fatty acids. Even though herbivores eat a diet high in carbohydrate from plant matter, these carbohydrates get fermented in their gut by bacteria to produce fat. This is why the natural diet of mammals is a high-fat diet, even the mammals that seem to be eating high-carbohydrate are actually eating high-fat. Herbivores have very specialized guts, often having more than 1 stomach.
