The new Amsterdam Birthday Blog and Daily Trivia Quiz are coming right along. So far weve filled in 250 different days on the calendar with birthdays of current and former well-known Amsterdam residents who were born on those dates. Subscriptions to the blog will be absolutely free and right now, the plan is to e-mail each days blog post and trivia question to subscribers. So if you subscribe, youll receive the trivia question each morning via e-mail at right around 10 am, followed by that days blog post an hour later. Weve put together some trivia questions for the birthday celebrants weve identified for February to give you an idea of how this new e-informartion service will work: The Amsterdam Birthday Blogs (ABB) February 1st Birthday Celebrant was a popular Amsterdam dentist who was found unconscious in his Market Street office in 1968 and died later that same day. Who was he? The ABBs February 2nd Birthday Celebrant once finished fifth in the US Olympic Weightlifting Team Trials. Who is he? The ABBs February 7th Birthday Celebrant brought Charleys Aunt to Amsterdam in 1960 and everyone loved her. Who is this February 7th birthday celebrant? The ABBs February 17th Birthday Celebrant had something in common with a legendary college football coach and he also turned Amsterdams Lyons Street into a one of this citys most popular destinations during the 1960s and 70s. Who was he? The ABBs February 23rd Birthday Celebrant is often credited with turning the Amsterdam High School football team into the Rugged Rams back in the 1960s. Who is he? Recipients will receive much more than just the answers to these questions within the 200-to-300-word profiles we are preparing for each celebrant. These e-mailed posts will serve as sort of daily history lessons about this community. In addition to educating you a bit, our goal is to entertain and inform you with true stories about some truly remarkable and colorful individuals who called Amsterdam home at one tome or another. Take today as an example. Frank Pabis (born January 8, 1915) worked in an Amsterdam furniture store as a young boy and became almost obsessed with the mission of discovering an easy way to repair the inevitable scratches and dents that drove the stores customers crazy. He turned that obsession into an Amsterdam company that employed 200 people. Tomorrow happens to be the birthday of one of Amsterdams most skilled and popular bartenders and its also the birthday of one of the greatest math teachers in the history of the Greater Amsterdam School district! So how do you subscribe? Its easy, just send an e-mail to amsterdambirthdays@genium. Include the word subscribe in the messages subject line and your name in the body of the message. As soon as the blog officially begins, youll start receiving the daily e-mails. We promise your e-mail address will only be used for this purpose and wont be rented, sold or used by others. And while youre at it, dont forget to send us the names and birth dates of people you feel deserve to be included in this blog. Weve already received a bunch of great nominations but were looking for more! We are hoping to begin the blog on February 1st. Needless to say, that will depend upon how many folks sign up as subscribers so please share this with all your friends who live here now or used to. Thanks for reading this.
