The new Black Lips record feels minor and constrained. Garage-by-numbers that nevertheless reveals their inherent melodic gifts. These are genre songs, but at least theyre decent ones. It just sounds a little basic for them. And maybe they agree, because they kind of just snuck it out there. Released like a flailing action movie, into the early spring. All that said, tracks 7 & 8 make for a strong middle. Those are your playlist tracks.
