The new Noah film comes out on the 4th April and from what Ive read and seen on the trailers it promises to be quite interesting. Of course, like other films taking inspiration from biblical material such as Scorseses Last Temptation of Christ (emphasis on the word temptation - some reacted as if it had actually occurred and felt that Jesus should have never been tempted in the first place), The Passion of Christ (labelled by some as a Catholic conspiracy - whatever that means), and Ben Hur (based on the book by Lew Wallace who supposedly went to the Holy Land to disprove Matthews gospel, convinced of its in authenticity, and being persuaded otherwise wrote his novel) its courting its fair share of controversy. Christians really get worked up about such things. And I wonder, is our faith really that shallow that a movie would cause it to crumble around our ears and cause a fall from grace. Were told, and hopefully believe that Jesus ascended into heaven so that he could send his Holy Spirit, who would change us and transform us (provided we dont box him in with our own thinking and religious rules). This should give us really deep roots to our faith. Its encouraging to see Christian leaders encouraging us to use the film as a spring board for conversation as such like. Well done to Pope Francis for giving Russell Crowe His blessing. Many Muslim countries wil ban it as it depicts someone they see as a prophet. Allowing films like this has caused riots, in fact. Perhaps as a religion that doesnt acknowledge that Jesus was crucified and rose again, then that promise of the Holy Spirit isnt there to bring about that deep down change, so the belief stays shallow and easily shaken. Just thoughts, really. We shouldnt let this sort of thing shake us. Go and see the film, take someone with you and see where it leads.
