The new XMen Days of Future Past is in the conversation of best superhero movie ever. The Quicksilver scene is maybe THE best scene from a comic book film. Fun with an interesting, ambitious plotline that somehow works...and without the unbearably padded runtime that bogs a lot of those movies down. Speaking of which...my all time favorite fictional character Spider-Man does not fare as well in the Amazing Spider-Man 2 flick. It has some superb moments, but seeing it a second time really spotlighted some flaws...one being that AWFUL Green Goblin costume. Sam Raimi would have been labeled the antichrist if the Goblin would have looked like that in his first Spidey film. Actually, I think the whole Osborn side plot is too convoluted and silly, to be honest. They should have stripped it back to Spidey v. Electro, 90 minutes, hint at the Osborn/Goblin stuff, then give an awesome ASM 3 with the Goblin story. I know they fastracked everything to get to a Sinister Six story, but it just doesnt really work overall...it feels rushed. And that isnt fanboy discontent...yes, the Goblin should never look like Evil Ed from the original Fright Night, but I would have been kinda ok with that if the movie was better. Garfield is funny and really kinda great as Spidey, pretty much everything with Pete and Gwen works, Sally Field rocks (duh), and Spidey looks fantastic in action (minus a few forgivable overly CGI segments). Anyway...fun night at the drive-in with my peeps and kids. Make Mine Marvel.
