The new committee members of Persatuan Seniman Malaysia (Seniman) say they were “caught by surprise” when they discovered that a police report had been lodged by the group’s president Rozaidi Abdul Jamil against its treasurer Vanidah Imran. In a statement Saturday, the committee members said that the matter reported by Seniman’s president Rozaidi also known as Zed Zaidi on Dec 19, 2014 was among the matters proposed by the committee to be discussed at the second committee meeting that failed to take place. The committee members explained that after the first meeting on Oct 15, 2014, Seniman’s members were given the mandate to perform their obligations and responsibilities within their respective bureaus when some administrative matters later arose that led to members attempting to organise a second committee meeting. However, according to the statement, on Dec 15, 2014 Zed responded to the meeting proposal by stating that there was “no requirement or urgency” to hold a second committee meeting. “On 19 December 2014, the new committee members were caught by surprise when it was discovered via the media that a police report was lodged by the president against the treasurer. “By lodging such police report, it appears as if the president has turned his back against the new committee members since he had never consulted and obtained the agreement of all committee members before commencing such action,” read the statement. The committee further added that the Zed’s conduct was in breach of the group’s rules. “We are of the view that the statement made by the president is baseless. It would be a better approach if all internal affairs of Persatuan Seniman are addressed and sorted out internally within the meetings of the committee members,” the statement signed by the committee members Rashidi Ishak, Datin Sofia Jane, Khir Rahman, Arash Mohd, Sharifah Amani and Lisa Surihani said.
