The new testament, as with all ancient books was copied by hand. The copies of copies we have, are not copied from any originals. The number of discrepancies found between the 5700 manuscripts making up the new testament, is debated among scholars and nobody has been able to add up all the differences. The one certainty is the number of differences exceeds the number of words in the new testament. Some of the changes are quite spectacular,, scribes have even copied columns reading across, which has in some manuscripts ended up in god not even being the first character.
